Cast steel is a steel for casting and a kind of casting alloy. Cast steel is a kind of way to industrial production parts, and a widely used way. Cast steel can be divided into different cast steel categories according to the different carbon content. Carbon steel casting is divided into below categories according to carbon content: low-carbon cast steel(C≤0.20%);medium carbon steel(C:0.2～0.5%);high-carbon steel(C≥0.5%). Cast steel can be divided into carbon cast steel and alloy cast steel according to the chemical composition. Low alloy steel can be divided into low alloy steel and high alloy steel by alloying element content. 1,Cast low alloy steel is a kind of cast steel that contains the alloying elements,such as manganese, chromium, copper and so on. Alloy elements in the total amount is less than 5% in general,Cast low alloy steel has a larger impact toughness and can get better mechanical properties by heat treatment. Cast low alloy steel has a better performance than than carbon steel and it can reduce the parts weight and improve it’s life.
2,Special steel casting is a kind of alloy cast steel in order to meet the special needs. It is various and usually contains high amount of one or more alloying elements to obtain some kind of special performance. For example, High manganese steel containing 11% ~ 14% manganese can impact wear resistance, which is usually used in mining machinery,engineering machinery’wearing parts; All kinds of stainless steel of Chromium or nickel chrome as the main alloying elements are used to working parts under the condition of corrosion or high temperature above 650 ℃ , such as chemical in the body, pump, the container or the large capacity power plant steam turbine casing, etc.
3,Cast carbon steel is a kind of cast steel that contains carbon as the main alloying element and also contains small amounts of other elements. That containing carbon less than 0.2% is casting low carbon steel and more than 0.5％ is casting high carbon steel. With the increasing of carbon content, the strength and hardness is increasing. Casting of the carbon steel has high strength, plasticity, toughness and low cost. It is used in the manufacture of high load of parts in the heavy machinery, such as rolling mill frame, hydraulic press base and so on; It is used in the manufacture of force big and withstand the shocks of parts,such as swing bolster, wheels and coupler, etc.
The carbon content and alloy content decides the cast steel’s classification and characteristic. Different cast steel has different use scope, so it is big helpful for correct choose and buy steel. The purchaser should carefully understand characteristics and reasonable choose steel.
